Irene Dunn - Teaching Assistant Academy
Irene Dunn enrolled on our Teaching Assistant Academy in May. Having been made redundant from her last job she was looking for a positive change. Although she had not been in education since she left school, she enrolled on the recommendation of a friend. ‘I was terrified at first, everyone was younger than me and there were times I wanted to quit.’
Irene said that one of the major reasons she continued was the support of her teacher and her colleagues on the course. ‘Kayleigh and the group were great, we all bonded really quickly and I have learned lots. I feel like I have made so many friends.’
Her teacher said, ‘Irene has been on quite a journey and has really grown in confidence. She actually broke the record for the quickest learner ever to complete this course which is quite an achievement. ’
When asked what is next Irene said, ‘I want to work with children and young people and help them learn. I am staying in education for the moment and I am next enrolling on a maths and English course here at Rotunda. ‘
Michael Evans - Functional Skills Maths Student - I feel like I can try and achieve anything
"For a long time I have suffered with mental health and addiction, the Maths functional skills course gave me structure and taught me to study. The lessons were enjoyable and I liked achieving - the way Alex taught the lessons helped me take everything on board and I managed to pass all three Maths levels (Entry level 3, Level 1 and Level 2). My focus has come back and my ability to retain information - I am now going to University to study Philosophy, I feel like I can try and achieve anything.
Rose Hodson - Health and Social Care Student - An unbelievable learning environment
"I began the course in Health and Social Care as a complete beginner, I was nervous about what felt like a lack of knowledge, but as soon as I began I realised there was nothing to be worried about at all. The teaching and support I received on the course was brilliant, and by the end of the course the entirety of the class asked to enrol for the next level up - it was an unbelievable learning environment."
Danielle Moran - Health and Social Care Student - I've grown so much as a person
"I'm so glad I did the course, it was really interesting and I loved attending the classes at Rotunda. I've gained so much knowledge and grown so much as a person."
Gary Traynor - Health and Social Care Student - Rotunda is a supportive environment
"I went to Rotunda to do my Health and Social Care Diploma, to help me progress into a voluntary role around addiction support, with the aim of going full time. Rotunda is a supportive environment, which helped our group bond with each other, it's a real learning environment where you are encouraged to achieve your true potential. There's also a lovely little bistro, with good prices and friendly staff."
Angela Green – Functional Skills Maths Student -A safe and welcoming environment
“I decided to study at Rotunda again due to the support and understanding I received from Staff on past courses. I enjoyed learning alongside students from all walks of life, and Rotunda provided a safe and welcoming learning environment, which kept me motivated to attend each session. I have gained confidence in my abilities and myself and I am one-step closer to reaching my end goal of having a Level 2 Functional Skills qualification in Maths. Passing my exam was a reminder that I should always believe in myself and continue to challenge myself.”
