What is the Healthy Neighbours Project?

The Healthy Neighbours Project

In 2022, Torus Foundation launched the Healthy Neighbours projects across Torus neighbourhoods in Liverpool, St Helens and Warrington, commissioning local organisations (highlighted below) to help to deliver targeted activities to tackle local health issues.

Each area has a dedicated Volunteer Co-cordinator and volunteers who are helping to encourage community members to take part in a range of activities. The various sessions and support provided aim to work towards improving health and wellbeing against an agreed set of health indicators, which could include food poverty, loneliness, obesity, physical inactivity and mental health.

Funding from the National Lottery

In April 2023, Torus Foundation was delighted to receive news that the National Lottery was awarding almost £500,000 to help continue the work of the Healthy Neighbours Project for another two years. This is down to the positive impact already being made by the project partners and community members engaging in the various activities and sessions taking place across Torus neighbourhoods.

Continuation of the Healthy Neighbours Programme

In April 2025, Torus Foundation secured core funding to continue with the programme beyond April 2025 following a Social Return On Investment (SROI) evaluation, carried out by Envoy Partnership, which highlighted the huge impact the programme has had on communities with a SROI of £6.51 for every £1 invested.

Rotunda's Involvement in the Healthy Neighbours project

Rotunda is actively involved in the project by running leisure and wellbeing groups, providing support and activities that promote health and community engagement. Our involvement aims to create a welcoming space for community members to connect and share skills, contributing to a stronger sense of belonging and  support within the community. Rotunda provides a local contact point, coordinates activities and support, and helps  engage residents in programmes aimed at tackling issues such as loneliness, food poverty, physical inactivity, mental health challenges, and other health inequalities. Volunteer coordinators and community champions are also involved in encouraging participation and identify local needs.
